Emotional Dialogue
From Conflict to Agreement
Learn to listen when emotions run high, express what matters and help difficult conversations move towards understanding and agreement.
What is Emotional Dialogue?
Emotional Dialogue is a pathway to agreement.
When we disagree, we tend to defend our own views. Yet people rarely listen until they feel heard.
Emotional Dialogue shifts attention to the other person’s emotions, concerns, needs and hopes. Feeling heard builds connection and understanding, allowing people to move beyond defending positions and start solving problems together.
This practical, step-by-step process turns emotions into resources for building trust, resolving conflicts and achieving shared goals. Agreement grows from understanding each other.
Who is this training for?
For people who want to handle difficult conversations more confidently.
We all face disagreements—with partners, family, friends or colleagues. Emotional Dialogue helps us understand each other, strengthen relationships and find a way forward when emotions run high.
For leaders, facilitators, coaches and HR professionals, these skills also help you support others through conflict, rebuild trust and turn difficult conversations into constructive collaboration.
Emotional Dialogue Training Programme
Four live online modules, each lasting 1.5 hours, held once a week.
What is Emotional Dialogue & Creating a Positive Impression
Explore a live conflict case and discover the structure of Emotional Dialogue. Practise Step 1 (Me): sharing observations together with positive emotions so the other person feels valued and ready to listen.
Creating an Emotional Connection & Finding True Interests
Practise Step 2 (You): affirming the other person’s identity and mirroring their emotions so they feel fully heard. Learn to look beneath defensive arguments and uncover their core motivations and needs.
Making a Proposal & Dealing with Concerns
Move from connection to action. Make proposals that respect both sides’ core needs, anticipate objections, and respond to active or passive resistance without escalating tension.
Case Practice & Integration
Put the process into practice through realistic conflict simulations. Test your skills under pressure, receive feedback from peers and the facilitator, and develop habits that support lasting change. Prepare for upcoming conversations in your own workplace.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this 4-module training series, participants will be able to:
- Identify the root psychological reasons why high-stakes conversations break down before they start.
- Deploy structured verbal steps to lower interpersonal defensiveness and build immediate trust.
- Uncover the hidden needs and true interests driving someone else’s visible stance or opposition.
- Structure presentations and proposals that directly balance shared outcomes and convert resistance into clear commitments.
